•  Tour de France Innovation - the organizers of the TdF establish the first “Best Climber Prize”. Spaniard Vicente Trueba was the winner of the first prize.

•  Germany - 1933, the infamous Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and officially started one of the worst eras in World history.

•  USA - Economic woes continue as the United States experiences the worst year of the “Great Depression”.

•  Prohibition Ends - The ratification of the 21st amendment to the US Constitution repealed the prohibition of alcoholic beverages.

•  France - The first lottery in France was drawn. A barber from Tarascon won 5 million French Franc prize. The winning number was 18414.

•  Hollywood - the movie King Kong was released.

Notable Deaths -
Calvin Coolidge, 1872-1933
, 30th President of the USA, he was a lawyer from Northampton, Massachusetts. Coolidge became President August 3, 1923 after the death of sitting President Warren Harding. He died at home in Northampton of a coronary blood clot January 5, 1933.
