Vuelta a Espana - The creation of the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain), in 1935 was set up in less than two months, by Clemente Lopez Doriga, the Vuelta a Espana's Henri Desgranges. The first edition of Vuelta a Espana, held in 1935, was closely related to the media and promoted by the newspaper Diario Informaciones. Belgian Gustaaf Deloor was the first winner of the Vuelta.
China - Chinese Communist Party leader Mao Zedong (Mao Tse-tung) took control of the government of China.
Italy - In an attempt to restore Rome imperial greatness Benito Mussolini invaded Abyssinia (now Ethiopia).
Germany - Nuremberg Laws take Jewish citizenship away and forbid intermarriages.

* Tour de France Champion: Henri Pelissier, 1889-1935, one of the best all-round French champions, he was rebellious against authority figures. Champion of the TdF in 1923, he had an ongoing war of words with Tour director Henri Desgranges. Pelissier was shot to death in a lovers quarrel at his home outside Paris.
Alfred Dreyfus, 1859-1935, French military officer falsely accused of treason during the "Dreyfus Affair" of the 1890's. The political cover-up played a role in the start up of the Tour de France.
Will Rogers, 1879-1935, “He never met a man he didn't like.” An Oklahoma farm boy, Rogers became a movie star and stage performer. He captured American audiences with his lasso twirling and topical joke telling.
