A Brilliant Victory by Merckx in 1972
Eddy “the Cannibal” Merckx broke away solo on the famous Cote de Stockeu 46 kms from the new finish in Vervier (finish moved 15 kms from Liege because of a fans protesting). The long breakaway by Merckx, while wearing his World Champion Jersey, gained the 1972 Liège–Bastogne–Liège victory.
