Houa Continues to Shine
The organizers of 3rd edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege offered a race for amateurs and professional. The race course was held on a modified course starting and finishing in nearby Spa, Belgium because organizers were having problems routing the race into the center of Liege. The course was shorter (223 km) but much hillier than the previous 2 years.
Two time defending champion Leon Houa once again controlled the race and beat Belgian Louis Rasquinet by 7 minutes. His winning time shattered the course record for average speed in 1894. Future Tour de France and Paris-Roubaix winner Maurice Garin finished fourth.
The organizers would take a 14 year hiatus after 1894. Le Doyenne returned in 1908.
