A Dutch Surpise
Young Dutch rider Cees Bal slipped away from the lead group while all the favorites were watching Eddy Merckx. The 20 year old Bal didn’t look back and soloed to the victory only 19 seconds ahead of a hard chasing pack.

SPECIAL NOTE: * X Walter Godefroot, finished 3rd overall, was disqualified for a positive test at doping control. Eddy Merckx became 3rd.
