The 1931 World Championship Road Race was held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The race in 1931 was a unique World Championships. Italian dominance of the World Championship Road Race gave rise to numerous complaints that the powerful Squadra Azzurra was working as a team (a practice frowned upon in the 1920’s and 30’s) in an individual road race. In 1931 the UCI commissioners had the race contested as an individual time trial with riders sent off every 2 minutes 20 seconds.
Italian Learco “the Human Locomotive” Guerro after finishing second in 1930 covered the 170 km course in 4h 53' 43" to win the 1931 Championship.
