Dutchman Thanks Teammates
Team Ti-Raleigh led an elite breakaway group rapidly towards Roubaix. Misfortune had eliminated two pre-race favorites Francesco Moser and Gilbert Duclos-Lasalle as Ti-Raleigh executed a perfect race plan.
Ti-Raleigh’s Ludo Peeters attacked to put defending champion Bernard Hinault under pressure. Reluctantly Hinault responded, towed the chase group and caught Peeters on the hill at Hem. Once the juncture was made Peeters' teammate Jan Raas count-attacked.
Team Ti-Raleigh's Jan Raas moved away and would not be caught. He cruised into the velodrome alone. The Dutchman crossed the finish line for a 16 second victory.
