Breakaway Victory for Girardengo

Cold temperatures greeted the riders at the start in Milan. Along the first half of the course snow and wind hindered the pace of the peloton. Constante Girardengo broke away on the climb of the Turchino Pass and rode through the rain along the Mediterranean coast. He claimed a 6 minute and 40 second victory in San Remo. This was his 5th Milan-San Remo victory.
