Deloor beats the Black Eagle
The prestige of Liege-Bastogne-Liege continued to grow. A growing number of great Belgian champions came to Liege in 1938. Marcel "Black Eagle" Kint, Felicien Vervaecke, Sylvan Maes, Gustave Deloor, and Romain Maes were prominent on the start list.
Alfons Deloor racing with his younger brother Gustave, the 1935 Vuelta a Espana champion and runner-up in L-B-L 1938, missed the 11 rider, Marcel Kint led breakaway group. After a furious chase the elder Deloor caught the leaders and launched a race winning sprint for the 1938 Liege-Bastogne-Liege victory.
