Small Field but a Big Win for Vermandel

The 13th edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege was held on June 3, 1923.

Twenty-four riders took the start in Liege. After 218 tough kilometers of racing twenty-two returned to Liege.

A twelve-rider breakaway flew into the finish to contest the sprint. Team Alcyon led out the final push to the finish line. René Vermandel (Alcyon) had the superior closing speed and jumped past Jean Rossius (La Francaise) and teammate Félix Sellier (Alcyon) to claim the prestigious L-B-L victory.
