Dolman’s Perfect Timing

Defending champion Eddy Merckx was very closely marked all day. He tried everything to break the race apart, but nothing worked. The sizable peloton rolled into the closing kilometers together.

The race came down to one final effort. Dutchman Evert Dolman timed his attack to perfection and escaped. Proudly Dolman took the prestigious Flanders victory.
