Gijssels Grand Victory
The 15th edition of Tour of Flanders was held March 22, 1931.
Thirty-three kilometers into the race, two riders broke clear of the peloton. After a long chase, a group of fifty riders caught the breakaway duo.
Additional attacks happened on the descent of the Kwaremont, and a six-rider breakaway formed. They rode onto the streets of Wetteren to contest the sprint.
Dutchman Cesar Bogaert (Independent) committed a mistake by leading out the sprint aiming for an advertising banner not the finish line banner. Taking advantage of the mistake Romain Gijssels (Dilecta-Wolber) sprinted past the tiring Bogaert to earn the Ronde victory.
