Flanders Gains in Popularity
Very bad weather greeted the riders for the 6th annual Tour of Flanders. Leon Devos rode through high winds and bitterly cold temperatures to claim the victory.
SPECIAL NOTE: The popularity of Flanders had begun several years before. The race was challenging the more established spring classics for prestige. The first foreign rider finished on the podium in 1922 with Frenchman Francis Pelissier taking third place.
