Lombardia's Huge Peloton
Despite the cheating and dirty tactics of 1907 a huge number of riders came to Milan for the Autumn Classic. The start was fast paced and under rainy conditions and wet roads the large field had a massive crashed. Quickly a small group of 20 formed the selection of the day.
Aggressively Luxembourger Francois Faber and the Red Devil himself, Giovanni Gerbi, broke away. Later in the race Italians Giovanni Cuniolo and Luigi Ganna chased hard and caught the two leaders. Fearing the Italians he wasted no time Faber and attacked the select group. Faber rode steadily away to a 14 min. 57 sec. victory in Milan.
