First non-Belgian Winner since 1930
Powerful Frenchman Camille Danguillaume, unfortunate in 1948 (late puncture), returned to Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 1949. Danguillaume sprinted away from the 6 rider breakaway to gain the victory. Danguillaume became the first foreign winner since 1930 German Hermann Buse in 1930.
