Aggressive Racing, but Grysolle Sneaks Away
SPECIAL NOTE: The 1945 race returned the finish line to the City of Wetteren.
Aggressive racing thinned the peloton to 23 riders as the race entered Wetteren for the finish. Wily veteran Sylvain Grysolle found a way to slip away from the breakaway group and rode solo for the final kilometers to gain a 15 second victory. The Tour of Flanders win was the biggest of Grysolle's career.
