Breakaway's newest promotion was a smashing success. Not only was the race well run but the racing results were fantastic as well. On the first day Derek took his first ride on a new "American Flyer T2" titanium frame and dazzled national champ Pete Pensyreses up the 4 mile hill to the finish for the victory. The second day was more of the same on a very severe 5 mile circuit. The breakaway again included Derek and Pete Pensyreses but the final sprint featured an unknown New York climber. After the final time up the 3 mile climb the course leveled off for the sprint, Andre Hurni was the first to attack as the final four jockeyed for position. With a great burst Derek pushed his new T2 to a second victory in two days.
