GRANBY ROAD RACE AUGUST 7,1993 Masters 45+
The early Saturday morning race featured the welcome return
of Neil Whitehouse to racing after an early season crash. Joined
by Bill Hartwell and Derek Williams, the race would develop into
a very memorable for NEMRT. Only five miles into the race on the
4 mile climb, Bill rolled off the front to test the strength of
the field. "I got a small gap and looked back to see Neil
and Derek sitting on the front of the pack," Bill said "so
I went a little harder." Given his great strength and strong
blocking by Neil and Derek, Bill would not be caught. This was
a sweet 40 mile solo for victory over a very strong field. On
the final climb to the finish Derek took a rocket shot of his
own to grab second place, putting a minute up on the field. Earl
Page charged in for third. Neil finished strongly in the pack
and was happy to be back on the race course. A very good race
for Bill and Derek and a great comeback ride by Neil.
