FALMOUTH (MAINE) RR MAY 1,1993 Master 45+
This race would be a tune-up for the Streaked Mountain RR
for Bill and Steve. With three climbs up Streaked Mt. the following
day, Falmouth should be calm. This was not to be the case. Bill
Shenk from Washington DC came to attack and he did. Early in the
race, run with the Masters 35 pack (less one lap), the 45+ riders
were the only attackers. The large pack was hard to split and
in the end the 45's separated and had their own sprint. Steve
was first to go in the sprint but was quickly reeled in. This
set up Bill Hartwell very nicely as he sped around and won the
sprint and the race. Steve riding very well recovered and got
on the train only to be nipped at the line by EastBay's Bill Kuell.
The aggressive Bill Shenk finished 5th.
