CONCORD CRITERIUM August 14,1993 Masters 45+
The Concord course has always been great for NEMRT and this
year's race would be no exception. The race was fast from the
start with early premes won by Barry and Henry. Countering Henry
preme was Neil's solo breakaway attempt. After building a large
lead Neil had trouble on the high speed third corner. "I
was flying and hit the corner too flat and the far curb came at
me very quickly. I could only lay it down to avoid a larger crash."
said Neil. After the crash, Neil was able to continue, albeit
gingerly, and made a strong contribution to the team effort late
in the race. With premes keeping the action fast Derek attacked
a preme and gave NEMRT it's second solo breakaway attempt of the
day. Earl Page (glued to Bill Hartwell's wheel), Artie LeBlanc,
Steve Toplitz couldn't answer the move. NEMRT went to work to
cut off any and all chase attempt and Derek flew to an exceptional
solo victory. Bill Hartwell, riding a very strong race, was nipped
by Earl Page in the field sprint for second. Barry sprinted in
for sixth.
