Stowe Road Race August, 1990 Masters 45+
Starting an awesome August was Henry Wilmer. To listen to Henry
describe the race "they let me roll down the road and I was
gone." It wasn't quite that easy. Henry as always rode
aggressively, creating a two man breakaway with super climber
Art LeBlanc, Sunapee. Coming into the final mile Henry kept the
pace fast and set up a great finishing kick. At the line Henry
had a great sprint and an awesome victory in one of the New England
classic races.
Masters 35+
Awesome august continued for NEMRT with Bob Haydock's win on a long breakaway. Bob's victory came on a 30 mile solo effort. "This was not intentional," he said "I was just doing my share when they let me roll down the road. I felt good today." Once he escaped the pelaton Bob increased his pace and hammered away. Lead at one point was large enough to afford Bob time to stop fix his jammed chain and continue. The bewildered pack never mounted a serious chase, knowing that no solo rider could stay away for that many miles at Stowe. Over West Hill Bob kicked in his great climbing power and breezed to an awesome victory.
