Salem Witches Cup Criterium July, 1984 Masters 35

Salem Criterium run on the 1 Km flat and fast race course around Salem Common. Derek Williams, Barry Boyce and Steve Jean made up the NEMRT contingent to face off against a surprisingly large and talented field. From Washington, DC Jim Montgomery and Rob Lea, Stowe's Jack Nash and Chet Warmen, Pennsylvania's Earl Page and many others made up the star studded field. The large field was cut down quickly by a very fast pace and constant attacks. The final lap was so short that the sprinters began setting up with three laps to go. Derek fresh off the sprint victory at Fitchburg led the sprint out and streaked toward the line only to be narrowly defeated by superstar Jim Montgomery. Barry working hard, finished 7th in a great dash to he line. Steve didn't fare as well, crashing in the first turn early in the race. Chet Warmen (Stowe) crashed tasting the hay bales in the final corner of the race.
