Lucien Van Impe (Bel)

Born: October 20, 1946, Erpe-Mere, Belgium

Professional: from 1969 to 1987

Lucien Van Impe won his first climbing prize as an amateur in 1968 at the Tour de Avenir. In 1969 he made his Tour de France debut with a twelfth place finish. He rode in fifteen Tours and won the Best Climber Award a record tying 6 times. Van Impe also won two Mountains Jerseys in the Giro d'Italia (1982 and 1983). Van Impe's Tour victory in 1976 was the high light of his career.
