Fritz Schaer (Sui)

Born: March 13, 1926, Kaltenbach, Switzerland

Died: September 29, 1997

Professional: from 1947 to 1958

Fritz Schaer was one of the strongest riders of the post WW2 era. Schaer wore the Pink Jersey in the Giro d' Italia for seven days (in 1950 and 1951): He also wore the Yellow Jersey in the Tour the France for six day. His best year was 1954, when he finished the 1954 Tour the France in third place and lost a bid for the 1954 World Championship Road Race in Solingen when he punctured in the final turn. In 1953 the inaugural points competition Fritz Schaer won the Maillot Vert (Green points Jersey).
