In 2001 the Tour de France organizers presented the Souvenir Jacques Goddet to honor the second Tour de France director Jacques Goddet. The Souvenir is awarded to the first rider to reach the summit of the Col du Tourmalet (2,115 m) in the Pyrenees. If the Tourmalet is the highest point of that year’s Tour, the Souvenir Henri Desgrange is awarded at the summit of the second-highest peak.
Since 2003, the winner got a €5,000 cash prize.
If the Col du Tourmalet is not used in that year’s Tour, the prize may not be awarded. * The SJG was given in 2002 on the Col d'Aubisque (1,709 m) and on the Port de Pailhères (2,001 m) in 2007.
