Tappa 16, May 25th, Lissone to Varazze, 210 km

The Final Push to Milan

After the second rest day the Giro d’Italia began its final push into the 'grand finale' in Milan. Stage 16 started in Lissone along a 210 km flat race course and finished in Varazze.

Italian Christophe Le Mevel (Crédit Agricole) led a six-rider breakaway off the front of a disinterested race leader’s group.

With three decisive stages looming in the Alps Le Mevel’s break was allowed to open a huge time gap. Into the finish in Varazze Le Mevel launched a huge attack and rode to the stage win. The Savoldelli group finish 22 min 46 sec behind the stage winner.
