The Bullet's Belgian Adventure
Day 1- Friday, March 31
, 2006
The Arrival.
The arrival in
Brussels at 8:50 am was easy. Customs, rent-a-car
no problem and off to Tournai (Doornijk in Flemish).
On the highway the Unibet team car came flying by, so Ijumped on. The Unibet car headed for Geraardsbergen and so I followed. In the middle of town
we split as I followed the signs for the “Muur” (Muur de Geraarsbergen, Muur de Gammont, or Muur de Kapelmuur all the same climb). From steep to really steep the
climb continued. Up past a monument to
Eddy Merckx, 100 meters to a pub, and over the top of the Chapel bump and it’s
done. Fully exciting but done in the car. I was not supposed to drive it but I
missed a “do not enter” (in Flemish...?) sign
(oops!).
Day 1 excitement complete it
was off to the hotel.
