L'Argentin... Again!”

Lucien Mazan, who raced as Lucien Petit-Breton, was also known as L'Argentin. He returned to the 1908 Tour de France as the reigning champion and solid favorite to repeat his 1907 victory. The strongest competition came from the very powerful Alcyon team, which was led by George Passerieu and Gustave Garrigou.

Petit-Breton rode for the small but talented Peugeot team where he and teammate Francois Faber aptly took on all challengers. Lucien Petit-Breton's march to the 1908 victory was a solid and very consistent effort. He attacked at very opportune times, dropped the race favorites from overall contention one by one and dominated the race throughout. He won five stages and finished in the top 3 in all but two of the 14 stages.
