Binda Repeats Lombardia Win

The weather that greeted the riders for the 1926 Giro di Lombardia was miserable. In the heavy rain and cold temperature talented 24 year old Alfredo Binda broke away solo early in the race.

Binda left his two breakaway companions Ermanno Vallazza (Ita) and Ottavio Bottecchia (Ita) on the climb of the Colle del Ghisallo to win the climbing prize. He did not stop over the summit and continued the attack. He rode the final 158 kms solo and left little doubt who was the strongest riders.

At the finish in Milan Binda crossed the finish line more than 29 minutes in front of second placed Antonio Negrini. Binda recorded his second consecutive victory in the “Race of the Falling Leaves”.
