Anquetil Time Trials to Victory

Jacques Anquetil used the only individual time trial (50.4 km from Parma to Baganzola Busseto) on stage 5 to capture the stage win and take a time gain of 2’38” over Italo Zilioli. The Frenchman took the race leader and beat back all challenges. He never surrendered the Maglia Rosa.

Anquetil matched every move by Zilioli and lost only seconds on the closing stages. He rode into Milan to win the 1964 Giro d’Italia by 1’22” over Zilioli.
