District Criterium 1991 Masters 35

On a fast, multi-cornered race course (including a 180 degree turn) Mark Hagen captured the final event of the District Road Triple Crown. Having already won the time trial and road race, the criterium proved to be the most demanding, tactically and physically. Aggressive riding from the gun split the field, the multiple accelerations out of the corners quickly sapped the strength of the chase pack. Through corner after corner, one or the other would be out of the saddle trying to breakaway. Mike Theroux made what would be the decisive move late in the race, escaping three breakaway companions. A lap later Mark bridged the gap and joined Mike in the breakaway. The two would not be caught. The lead slowly increased and Mark came away with the Gold medal victory completing the very difficult triple gold medal.
