Steve Jean came to bicycle racing after an outstanding career as a runner. Seeking new challenges, Steve took-up racing bicycles and immediately became a force on the racing circuit. A tireless team worker Steve could help a teammate or finish a breakaway himself. Steve's cycling career was abruptly halted when he suffered severe back injuries as a result of a high speed, downhill crash while competing in the Fat Tire Classic (Mt. Bike race), Pico, VT. In that race, Steve was able to get up from the crash and finish the race in 1st place. Unfortunately for Steve, he has not been able to compete since the 1993 accident. Steve's place in the Hall of Fame will be a strong reminder of his great efforts on behalf of NEMRT.
