ESCONDIDO to SANTA ROSA!!!

A Taste of California

Stage by Stage X ToCal Travelogue X ToCal Map

As America's most successful cycling race, the Amgen Tour of California is one of the nation’s largest and most recognized annual sporting events.“  California welcomes the eight-stage Tour for the eighth time.  First run in 2006, the Tour of California has become one of the most sought after championships in the World.  Sixteen of the top “UCI’s World Tour” teams race over the scenic California roads, highways, mountains, and valleys.  The event annually attracts more than 2 million enthusiastic fans to the roadsides.  The Worldwide television audience spans 216 countries.

The Tour travels from South to North for the first time with a start in Escondido in Southern California and the finish in Santa Rosa, north of San Francisco.  The executive director of the race Kristin Bachochin said “The race showcases the State’s amazing terrain and scenery.”  From coastal routes to mountain vistas this year’s Amgen Tour of California promises to be exciting from start to finish.

By any measure, this race has the cream of the pro peloton riding. The Amgen ToCal has in a short history created all of the elements that define a world class event. They obviously have a great organization. They attract the world's best riders and most importantly of all the event draws massive public support. It will be some years yet before Grand Tour status can be discussed in earnest, but if the ToCal can carry on building this great race, then the sky is the limit.

Find a stage and GET THERE IF YOU CAN!!!
